I would see a student buy clothes, eat out, spray expensive perfume, yet still struggle to pay school fees, and I’d quietly wonder, “How?” To me, school fees come first. It has a deadline. Food can be managed. Clothes can repeat. I can wear four outfits in a semester and drink garri for two weeks if that is what it takes to secure my education. Once fees are paid, my mind rests. But over time I realized something important: people act based on how they were trained. What looks irresponsible to me might be normal to someone else. What feels urgent to me may not feel urgent to them. Not everyone grew up learning to delay enjoyment. Not everyone was taught to secure tomorrow before today. So I stopped judging. Now, I simply understand that we are products of different teachings, different pressures, different realities. Still, I will always choose to put what expires first ahead of what can wait. Because peace of mind is priceless.
